  50. agent-base
  51. ==========
  52. ### Turn a function into an [`http.Agent`][http.Agent] instance
  53. [![Build Status](https://github.com/TooTallNate/node-agent-base/workflows/Node%20CI/badge.svg)](https://github.com/TooTallNate/node-agent-base/actions?workflow=Node+CI)
  54. This module provides an `http.Agent` generator. That is, you pass it an async
  55. callback function, and it returns a new `http.Agent` instance that will invoke the
  56. given callback function when sending outbound HTTP requests.
  57. #### Some subclasses:
  58. Here's some more interesting uses of `agent-base`.
  59. Send a pull request to list yours!
  60. * [`http-proxy-agent`][http-proxy-agent]: An HTTP(s) proxy `http.Agent` implementation for HTTP endpoints
  61. * [`https-proxy-agent`][https-proxy-agent]: An HTTP(s) proxy `http.Agent` implementation for HTTPS endpoints
  62. * [`pac-proxy-agent`][pac-proxy-agent]: A PAC file proxy `http.Agent` implementation for HTTP and HTTPS
  63. * [`socks-proxy-agent`][socks-proxy-agent]: A SOCKS proxy `http.Agent` implementation for HTTP and HTTPS
  64. Installation
  65. ------------
  66. Install with `npm`:
  67. ``` bash
  68. $ npm install agent-base
  69. ```
  70. Example
  71. -------
  72. Here's a minimal example that creates a new `net.Socket` connection to the server
  73. for every HTTP request (i.e. the equivalent of `agent: false` option):
  74. ```js
  75. var net = require('net');
  76. var tls = require('tls');
  77. var url = require('url');
  78. var http = require('http');
  79. var agent = require('agent-base');
  80. var endpoint = 'http://nodejs.org/api/';
  81. var parsed = url.parse(endpoint);
  82. // This is the important part!
  83. parsed.agent = agent(function (req, opts) {
  84. var socket;
  85. // `secureEndpoint` is true when using the https module
  86. if (opts.secureEndpoint) {
  87. socket = tls.connect(opts);
  88. } else {
  89. socket = net.connect(opts);
  90. }
  91. return socket;
  92. });
  93. // Everything else works just like normal...
  94. http.get(parsed, function (res) {
  95. console.log('"response" event!', res.headers);
  96. res.pipe(process.stdout);
  97. });
  98. ```
  99. Returning a Promise or using an `async` function is also supported:
  100. ```js
  101. agent(async function (req, opts) {
  102. await sleep(1000);
  103. // etc…
  104. });
  105. ```
  106. Return another `http.Agent` instance to "pass through" the responsibility
  107. for that HTTP request to that agent:
  108. ```js
  109. agent(function (req, opts) {
  110. return opts.secureEndpoint ? https.globalAgent : http.globalAgent;
  111. });
  112. ```
  113. API
  114. ---
  115. ## Agent(Function callback[, Object options]) → [http.Agent][]
  116. Creates a base `http.Agent` that will execute the callback function `callback`
  117. for every HTTP request that it is used as the `agent` for. The callback function
  118. is responsible for creating a `stream.Duplex` instance of some kind that will be
  119. used as the underlying socket in the HTTP request.
  120. The `options` object accepts the following properties:
  121. * `timeout` - Number - Timeout for the `callback()` function in milliseconds. Defaults to Infinity (optional).
  122. The callback function should have the following signature:
  123. ### callback(http.ClientRequest req, Object options, Function cb) → undefined
  124. The ClientRequest `req` can be accessed to read request headers and
  125. and the path, etc. The `options` object contains the options passed
  126. to the `http.request()`/`https.request()` function call, and is formatted
  127. to be directly passed to `net.connect()`/`tls.connect()`, or however
  128. else you want a Socket to be created. Pass the created socket to
  129. the callback function `cb` once created, and the HTTP request will
  130. continue to proceed.
  131. If the `https` module is used to invoke the HTTP request, then the
  132. `secureEndpoint` property on `options` _will be set to `true`_.

  452. https-proxy-agent
  453. ================
  454. ### An HTTP(s) proxy `http.Agent` implementation for HTTPS
  455. [![Build Status](https://github.com/TooTallNate/node-https-proxy-agent/workflows/Node%20CI/badge.svg)](https://github.com/TooTallNate/node-https-proxy-agent/actions?workflow=Node+CI)
  456. This module provides an `http.Agent` implementation that connects to a specified
  457. HTTP or HTTPS proxy server, and can be used with the built-in `https` module.
  458. Specifically, this `Agent` implementation connects to an intermediary "proxy"
  459. server and issues the [CONNECT HTTP method][CONNECT], which tells the proxy to
  460. open a direct TCP connection to the destination server.
  461. Since this agent implements the CONNECT HTTP method, it also works with other
  462. protocols that use this method when connecting over proxies (i.e. WebSockets).
  463. See the "Examples" section below for more.
  464. Installation
  465. ------------
  466. Install with `npm`:
  467. ``` bash
  468. $ npm install https-proxy-agent
  469. ```
  470. Examples
  471. --------
  472. #### `https` module example
  473. ``` js
  474. var url = require('url');
  475. var https = require('https');
  476. var HttpsProxyAgent = require('https-proxy-agent');
  477. // HTTP/HTTPS proxy to connect to
  478. var proxy = process.env.http_proxy || 'http://168.63.76.32:3128';
  479. console.log('using proxy server %j', proxy);
  480. // HTTPS endpoint for the proxy to connect to
  481. var endpoint = process.argv[2] || 'https://graph.facebook.com/tootallnate';
  482. console.log('attempting to GET %j', endpoint);
  483. var options = url.parse(endpoint);
  484. // create an instance of the `HttpsProxyAgent` class with the proxy server information
  485. var agent = new HttpsProxyAgent(proxy);
  486. options.agent = agent;
  487. https.get(options, function (res) {
  488. console.log('"response" event!', res.headers);
  489. res.pipe(process.stdout);
  490. });
  491. ```
  492. #### `ws` WebSocket connection example
  493. ``` js
  494. var url = require('url');
  495. var WebSocket = require('ws');
  496. var HttpsProxyAgent = require('https-proxy-agent');
  497. // HTTP/HTTPS proxy to connect to
  498. var proxy = process.env.http_proxy || 'http://168.63.76.32:3128';
  499. console.log('using proxy server %j', proxy);
  500. // WebSocket endpoint for the proxy to connect to
  501. var endpoint = process.argv[2] || 'ws://echo.websocket.org';
  502. var parsed = url.parse(endpoint);
  503. console.log('attempting to connect to WebSocket %j', endpoint);
  504. // create an instance of the `HttpsProxyAgent` class with the proxy server information
  505. var options = url.parse(proxy);
  506. var agent = new HttpsProxyAgent(options);
  507. // finally, initiate the WebSocket connection
  508. var socket = new WebSocket(endpoint, { agent: agent });
  509. socket.on('open', function () {
  510. console.log('"open" event!');
  511. socket.send('hello world');
  512. });
  513. socket.on('message', function (data, flags) {
  514. console.log('"message" event! %j %j', data, flags);
  515. socket.close();
  516. });
  517. ```
  518. API
  519. ---
  520. ### new HttpsProxyAgent(Object options)
  521. The `HttpsProxyAgent` class implements an `http.Agent` subclass that connects
  522. to the specified "HTTP(s) proxy server" in order to proxy HTTPS and/or WebSocket
  523. requests. This is achieved by using the [HTTP `CONNECT` method][CONNECT].
  524. The `options` argument may either be a string URI of the proxy server to use, or an
  525. "options" object with more specific properties:
  526. * `host` - String - Proxy host to connect to (may use `hostname` as well). Required.

  930. socks-proxy-agent
  931. ================
  932. ### A SOCKS proxy `http.Agent` implementation for HTTP and HTTPS
  933. [![Build Status](https://github.com/TooTallNate/node-socks-proxy-agent/workflows/Node%20CI/badge.svg)](https://github.com/TooTallNate/node-socks-proxy-agent/actions?workflow=Node+CI)
  934. This module provides an `http.Agent` implementation that connects to a
  935. specified SOCKS proxy server, and can be used with the built-in `http`
  936. and `https` modules.
  937. It can also be used in conjunction with the `ws` module to establish a WebSocket
  938. connection over a SOCKS proxy. See the "Examples" section below.
  939. Installation
  940. ------------
  941. Install with `npm`:
  942. ``` bash
  943. $ npm install socks-proxy-agent
  944. ```
  945. Examples
  946. --------
  947. #### TypeScript example
  948. ```ts
  949. import https from 'https';
  950. import { SocksProxyAgent } from 'socks-proxy-agent';
  951. const info = {
  952. host: 'br41.nordvpn.com',
  953. userId: 'your-name@gmail.com',
  954. password: 'abcdef12345124'
  955. };
  956. const agent = new SocksProxyAgent(info);
  957. https.get('https://jsonip.org', { agent }, (res) => {
  958. console.log(res.headers);
  959. res.pipe(process.stdout);
  960. });
  961. ```
  962. #### `http` module example
  963. ```js
  964. var url = require('url');
  965. var http = require('http');
  966. var SocksProxyAgent = require('socks-proxy-agent');
  967. // SOCKS proxy to connect to
  968. var proxy = process.env.socks_proxy || 'socks://127.0.0.1:1080';
  969. console.log('using proxy server %j', proxy);
  970. // HTTP endpoint for the proxy to connect to
  971. var endpoint = process.argv[2] || 'http://nodejs.org/api/';
  972. console.log('attempting to GET %j', endpoint);
  973. var opts = url.parse(endpoint);
  974. // create an instance of the `SocksProxyAgent` class with the proxy server information
  975. var agent = new SocksProxyAgent(proxy);
  976. opts.agent = agent;
  977. http.get(opts, function (res) {
  978. console.log('"response" event!', res.headers);
  979. res.pipe(process.stdout);
  980. });
  981. ```
  982. #### `https` module example
  983. ```js
  984. var url = require('url');
  985. var https = require('https');
  986. var SocksProxyAgent = require('socks-proxy-agent');
  987. // SOCKS proxy to connect to
  988. var proxy = process.env.socks_proxy || 'socks://127.0.0.1:1080';
  989. console.log('using proxy server %j', proxy);
  990. // HTTP endpoint for the proxy to connect to
  991. var endpoint = process.argv[2] || 'https://encrypted.google.com/';
  992. console.log('attempting to GET %j', endpoint);
  993. var opts = url.parse(endpoint);
  994. // create an instance of the `SocksProxyAgent` class with the proxy server information
  995. var agent = new SocksProxyAgent(proxy);
  996. opts.agent = agent;
  997. https.get(opts, function (res) {
  998. console.log('"response" event!', res.headers);
  999. res.pipe(process.stdout);
  1000. });
  1001. ```
  1002. #### `ws` WebSocket connection example
  1003. ``` js
  1004. var WebSocket = require('ws');
  1005. var SocksProxyAgent = require('socks-proxy-agent');
  1006. // SOCKS proxy to connect to
  1007. var proxy = process.env.socks_proxy || 'socks://127.0.0.1:1080';
  1008. console.log('using proxy server %j', proxy);
  1009. // WebSocket endpoint for the proxy to connect to
  1010. var endpoint = process.argv[2] || 'ws://echo.websocket.org';
  1011. console.log('attempting to connect to WebSocket %j', endpoint);
  1012. // create an instance of the `SocksProxyAgent` class with the proxy server information
  1013. var agent = new SocksProxyAgent(proxy);
  1014. // initiate the WebSocket connection
  1015. var socket = new WebSocket(endpoint, { agent: agent });
  1016. socket.on('open', function () {
  1017. console.log('"open" event!');
  1018. socket.send('hello world');
  1019. });
  1020. socket.on('message', function (data, flags) {
  1021. console.log('"message" event! %j %j', data, flags);
  1022. socket.close();
  1023. });
  1024. ```
